Playtime Ideas

Nat and Twister ... I put soda cardboard boxes, such as Pepsi, into her cage. She usually sleeps in it. She also likes to run all around and inside of it. Also, I just like to watch her run around in the cage going up and down and up and around; it makes me giggle.

GuineaPigDude ... When I let my pigs out for playtime, I always leave the door open with neat cubes blocking the way so that they can still catch us doing what we humans do. This is also the time I feed them their salad. Sometimes I hide pieces around the room where they play so that they can do their natural instincts to use their noses and hunt for food. I also have carpet tubes (made of thick cardboard) that they ADORE! They can chew on the outside, and go in and out as they please. Something that I found my pigs enjoy is when I lay flat on the ground ... they have a grand old time figuring out what the heck is going on! They sniff and talk to me and absolutely love it. I have also found out that guinea pigs love boxes. I usually give them a box to use and fill the inside with bedding so they have a "retreat" and a place to run through.

cardboard box buildings

Equestrian's Guinea Pig Buildings ... I cut the tops and bottoms off of cardboard boxes, which keeps the area within the sides of the box well lit so that you can see the piggies and also so that they don't just huddle inside the box. Then I cut multiple doors and windows in them for them to run and jump through. My piggies popcorn at the sight of their little "city"!  A nice thing about using boxes that have the top and bottom cut off is that the boxes collapse and fold flat so many of them can be stored behind a dresser or in a closet. You can use different ones each time your piggies are turned out to play; I rotate a few different sets of boxes to keep them interesting for my piggies.

Emma ... The photo on the left shows Bubbles playing in the cardboard tube that is in their area. They also have a plastic igloo that they like to use.

haley's marble and sparkle

Haley ...  Here is a photo of my guinea pigs Marble and Sparkle in the Lego house I made for them!

joey's honey bun

Joey ... I found out that Honey Bun likes to push a golf ball around with her nose. Sometimes I rub it with lettuce and she goes crazy [for it]. Try it out. Another idea: get a basket style purse and line it with a towel ... it makes a great hideout. Make mazes out of blocks and use carrots or lettuce to help the pigs find their way out. Get one of the rubber balls with all the holes in it (can be found at a dollar store) and stick lettuce in it and let the fun begin.
